Consulting Scientist: Cell Manufacturing & Process Development

Rami Nasrallah is a cell biologist and biomanufacturing scientist with more than 18 years of experience across cell therapy, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering. His background spans cell culture, process development, scale-up, quality testing, technology transfer, and laboratory operations within regulated biotechnology environments.

Rami provides independent scientific consulting support to Innate Healthcare Institute, advising on umbilical cord–derived mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) culture, laboratory process development, manufacturing workflows, scale-up, quality documentation, and technical training.

Throughout his career, Rami has worked with a broad range of cell systems, including bone marrow and umbilical cord derived mesenchymal stromal cells, adipose-derived stromal cells, hematopoietic stem cells, and tissue engineered and 3D-bioprinted constructs. His experience with umbilical cord–derived MSCs includes Wharton’s jelly processing, enzymatic and explant-based isolation, multi-passage expansion, cryopreservation, cell banking, and development of standardized culture processes.

Rami has driven cell-culture and bioreactor scale-up efforts across multiple biotechnology organizations, advancing processes from laboratory-scale culture into multilayer vessels and bioreactor platforms. At Organogenesis, he led bioreactor scale-up activities within process development supporting Dermagraft, a PMA-approved cell-based product, while collaborating across research, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory functions. He has also contributed to preclinical programs for rare diseases and worked within organizations operating under GMP, ISO, and FDA regulatory frameworks.

His technical expertise includes flow cytometry, sterility and mycoplasma testing, qPCR, ELISA, media and process optimization, technology transfer, cell banking, and development of audit-ready technical documentation. He has trained and supervised laboratory teams and co-authored scientific publications involving stem-cell isolation, characterization, and tissue engineering. Rami holds a degree in Biology from California State University, Long Beach, with an emphasis in Cell and Molecular Biology and a minor in Chemistry.
