Cannabis and Crohn's Disease (IBD)

Cannabis and Crohn's Disease (IBD)

In a study published in the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology researchers looked into the beneficial effects of THC on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The researchers concluded:

"Although the primary end point of the study (induction of remission) was not achieved, a short course (8 weeks) of THC-rich cannabis produced significant clinical, steroid-free benefits to 10 of 11 patients with active Crohn's disease, compared with placebo, without side effects. Further studies, with larger patient groups and a nonsmoking mode of intake, are warranted."

Although the primary end point (induction of remission) was not achieved, it's still impressive to see 10 out of 11 patients receive benefits and 5 of those have complete remission. Surprisingly, as the authors mentioned in their conclusion, the delivery method was smoking and not an edible. I would bet a more direct delivery method to the intestinal tract might improve results.
